The 29-year-old victim, who has not been named, told police he was living with his mother pending a divorce and was asleep with his girlfriend when he woke to Ms McGregory hitting and slapping him. She allegedly gained access to the house through the basement door.
At some point in the assault, Ms McGregory allegedly picked up a pair of scissors by the bed and stabbed the victim and then “bit him in the groin area”, the newspaper reported.
It was unclear if the victim’s girlfriend was in bed during the attack or if she was assaulted.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Christian said the victim should use caution around his estranged wife, who has been released from jail after posting $US45,000 bail.
“If I were him, I would step very lightly and politely around her,” Deputy Christian said. “That hell hath no fury saying rings pretty true.”
